The Akpafu and Lolobi Traditional Area has petitioned the electoral commission of Ghana. They seek to know amongst many other things why they weren’t allowed to vote in the recent parliamentary elections.

This is following an earlier communication by the Electoral Commission assured the traditional area of plans to ensure they are not disenfranchised.

The traditional areas of Akpafu and Lolobi have submitted a joint petition to the Election Commission of Ghana, asking for clarification on the voting status of their people in the 2020 elections.

On November 27, 2020 and December 16, 2020, the two traditional areas wrote a letter to the Election Commission requesting clarification of their voting rights before the December 2020 elections and after the elections, respectively.

In another request from the traditional regions, they pointed out that the combined efforts of the Electoral Commission to organize the 2020 general elections had resulted in the denial of the right to vote of the inhabitants of the region.

Chiefs, elders, and residents of the traditional areas of Akpafu and Lolobi have expressed concern and disappointment with the Election Commission for preventing them from voting for their parliamentary candidate in Hohoe constituency, a constituency that ‘they called it “mother constituency”. They said it was the first time since 1992 that the Commission had denied them their rights in an election to select a candidate to represent them.

The traditional areas further request answers to some questions on the conduct of the 2020 elections and constitutional interpretations of how the elections were conducted, compilation and reporting of election results in the traditional areas of Akpafu and Lolobi.

Meanwhile Supporters of the National democratic congress across Ghana remain resolute in a quest to scrutinise election 2020 results.
