[Video] Inspirational; Former Defense Minister cum Navrongo Centrap MP ventures into Farming.

0

Sometime last two years, I engaged two friends in a conversation around the Sandema Post office; we talked about the opportunities that abound in the savanna zone of Ghana, and the seemingly tough hassle in places like Accra. At a point, we all agreed that, for young people like us to truly improve our economic fortunes, there was a rapid need to invest. Several investment ideas came up but a lot of the ideas centered on farming, one way or the other. That’s when I found out about my uncle who owned over 1,500 cattle, and Mark Woyongo’s over 800bags of rice harvest.

I grew up on an irrigation project, and was well aware of how farming enriched my late father; however, I had never paid attention it as an investment investment. However, seeing the video of Former Defense Minister cum Navrongo Central MP, Mark Woyongo talk about his life as a farmer has rekindled an interest in the area.  The obviously fulfilled Mark Woyongo who refers to his current venture as his first love is definitely an inspiration to many of us.

I will definitely be speaking with one of those friends with whom I had the discussion with; it’s unfortunate the other who goes by the name Jonathan Allou died two weeks ago. May his Soul Rest in Peace.

Farming is one lucrative venture worthy of our resources.

MTN WE DEY BEG WAE…AS YOU DEY FOR WE, WE TOO WE WAN DEY PLUS YOU.

In a Facebook comment under one of Citi Fm’s posts on Facebook, one Stephen Kwabena Attuh has insinuated that Ghana’s telecommunication giant MTN may just not be as caring as their slogan “We Dey 4 You” seems to suggest. He recounted a frustrating experience from as far back as 2014 where he had to leave dump his router at the Graphic Road Branch of MTN.

Below is his post.

CRYING OVER MTN?

Hahahahaha people are talking of MTN?

Well well well! I had to leave a router I bought then at Ghc190 at their Graphic Road branch over their incessant thievery sometimes 2014 thereabouts. Till date, if I was a human being to be called back for that issue to be resolved, I must be lucky on the day that call would come.

I remember I bought data bundle on the router. The router wasn’t functioning as the internet wasn’t active. Eventually, in less than 30 minutes, a data bundle of about 4GB was reported to have been exhausted when not even a browser could open.

I went to their office on the Graphic Road, and they were mysteriously and miraculously able to produce records of my supposed usage of the said data of 4GB in less than 30 minutes, a bundle that didn’t open even a browser at the time on my tablet.

The customer service office said there was nothing she could do because ‘evidence’ on her PC says I used the data.

I got furious, and told her she could have the router if that is the case because I could not be throwing away my money in the manner it happened.

I told her, I know I am a heavy data user. I know when I use data and when I didn’t use it. And that I would never have been in their office if I had the slightest knowledge of what I used that data for.

She took the router, and I walked away. Which meant I just threw away Ghc190 and the 4GB I bought at the time. Till date, no one bothered to even make a follow-up call to me to find out what happened.

Then I realised that well, I am just an individual. There are millions of customers on their network. Losing me would mean nothing to them. At the time, I have been on their network for almost a decade.

I advised myself, and made that personal decision to port my number. After all, they have nothing to lose.

But, what I am seeing today, the complaints coming up, may just cause the company more than a customer as they thought they were doing in my case. If you lose one, you will lose two and it’s just a matter of time that you would lose all.

ASK”

The above comes on the heels of a sharp increase in data charges by MTN which has resulted in massive outcry by users. These new charges came into effect sometime on Sunday. Posts by MTN on their various social media platforms have received a barrage of insults and anger since many find the move to be insensitive. However, it appears MTN is not perturbed by the outrage. Since they’ve only made posts about system failures resulting from the change in data charges.

Many users are also advocating for a switch to other networks, however, one cannot be certain what to expect since all these antics are as a result of directives from the Ministry of Communication in Ghana. This implies that, the other Telco’s might just be buying time before they make a needful adjustment for business advancement. Since, I know very little about how Telco’s arrive at data and voice charges, I can only hope, there’s a way to reduce these charges to ease the hussle of the already overburdened Ghanaian.

Hajia Fati fined Gh¢9000 for assaulting journalist

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hajia Fati who assaulted a journalist at the party’s headquarters in Accra on May 4, 2018, has been fined Gh¢9000.

The Human Rights High Court on Monday December 2, 2019, fined Hajia Fati, a vociferous supporter of the NPP for the assault of Adom FM’s reporter, Akosua Sakyiwaa also known as Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa.

The court held that Hajia Fati violated the fundamental human rights of the reporter to free expression in the exercise of her profession as a journalist.

The court in its judgement said Hajia Fati’s action is a threat to media freedom which ought to be punished to serve as an example to others who may be minded to interfere with media freedoms.

The court also observed that protection of such rights and freedoms was critical to a properly functioning democracy.

It, however, declined to fix joint liability on the NPP explaining that the party had shown that Hajia Fati did not act on its instruction and it was also evident in the party’s open condemnation of the assault.

The court, however, noted that Hajia Fati had shown remorse and rendered apologies for her conduct.

A criminal trial of Hajia Fati is still ongoing.

Attack

Hajia Fati attacked the journalist by slapping her because according to her, the reporter did not seek her permission before taking pictures of her whilst at the NPP headquarters on Friday, May 4, 2018.

The journalist was at the NPP headquarters on May 4, 2018 to report on the picking of nomination forms by aspiring national officers of the party.

Whilst there, a suspended First Vice-Chairman of the NPP, Mr Sammy Crabbe went there to pick forms but was asked to go and bring cash since the party was not accepting banker’s draft.

Hajia Fati who stormed the party headquarters upon hearing Sammy Crabbe had been there vowed not to allow him to pick the forms should he return.

Her outbursts created a scene and according to the journalist, in her attempt to capture proceedings with her phone, Hajia Fati pounced on her and slapped her.

The case was reported to the Nima Police for action and ended up in court.

Hajia Fati’s argument

Hajia Fati later on explained that she thought the reporter was a member of Sammy Crabbe’s camp who had been sent to take pictures for ulterior motives.

According to her, the reporter looked like an “onion seller” not a journalist as she had come to learn.

After public condemnation, Hajia Fati later rendered an apology to the journalist and the entire journalism fraternity for her behaviour.

University of Skills and Entrepreneurial Development Birthed

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that the Kumasi campus of the University of Education will become an autonomous institution under the name, University of Skills and Entrepreneurial Development.

During a sod-cutting ceremony at the school for the construction of a Technical Examination Unit at the College of Technology Education which is scheduled to be completed in 12 months, President Akufo-Addo noted that plans are far advanced in making the school an autonomous institution.

He added that the school will have other satellite campuses at various colleges of education to equip students in skills training.

“These are exciting times for our country. I am expecting [that] the Ministry of Education, [and] Council for Technical and Vocational Education Training (COTVET), will work hard to deliver the project on time and on budget so that we can gather for the commissioning of this facility.”

The Students Representative Council of the school at a news conference last week said the delay in making the school autonomous was impeding academic work.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education Winneba, Rev. Fr. Prof Afful Broni who was also at the programme stated that the decision to make the Kumasi campus autonomous was a step in the right direction.

This development has been long overdue as the Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh on August 31, 2018, announced that Government intends to make the Kumasi and Mampong campuses of the University of Education together with eight other technical and vocational oriented Colleges of Education autonomous.

In keeping faith with the government’s commitment to quality TVET, the President through the Minister of Finance made provision for the yet to be created University in the 2019 budget statement.

UEW SRC laments delays in granting Kumasi, Mampong campuses autonomy

The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Kumasi campus had complained about the continuous delays in processes to make the Kumasi and Mampong campuses of the University autonomous claiming it was impeding academic work.

The student leadership cited infrastructural challenges, lack of access to internet facilities, inadequate lecture space as problems facing students at the Kumasi and Mampong campuses of the University.

The SRC argued that the bureaucracy that was hampering the speedy infrastructural developments will be curtailed if autonomy is granted to both institutions.

The executives at a news conference highlighted key challenges faced by students at the Kumasi and Mampong campuses and attributed these challenges to the delays in granting autonomy to the institutions.

SRC President for the UEW-Kumasi campus, Boateng Samuel Clinton said “it is heart-wrenching to sit here today to illustrate the problems students face as a result of the inefficiencies in the Winneba system and the uneven distribution”.

Jesus not God; I don’t pray through him – Ambolley

0

Afro-jazz and highlife legend Gyedu-Blay Ambolley has said Jesus is not God and, therefore, he prays directly to God and never through Jesus.

“People are saying Jesus is God”, Ambolley complained to Class FM Saturday, 30 November 2019, explaining: “It’s like this formation of the white people that has been brought to us but we mustn’t forget that all of us went through the missionary schools; all the schools that we went to, Anglican, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, all were established by the missionaries, so, they taught us what they wanted us to know”.

Asked by the host if he believed Jesus is God, Ambolley said: “I believe in being truthful to myself, I believe that I cannot say Jesus is God or if I want to pray to the creator, I have to pray to the creator through Jesus”.

He explained further: “It’s just like [being in] a family that you’re not at peace with your father, so, if you want anything from your father, maybe you pass through your brother or you pass through your sister because you can’t go straight to your father because of your misbehaving, so, now you want to use somebody” to get through to your father.

“Me, if I want anything, I go straight to my creator, I’m never going to go through Jesus; for what?” he asked, adding: “Before I came into this world, everything was in order; when I leave this world, the order is still going to be the same, I’m not going to say somebody has come so [I have to pray through him] because I see Jesus as a teacher; a teacher that he has told you that if you want to go to God, this is the way; he has finished his job”, Ambolley argued.

He, therefore, wondered why people make so much noise about Jesus in churches.

“Now, people are always crying: ‘In the name of Jesus’. People in the churches are using microphones and speakers [disturbing everybody]. It’s like anything they want from the father now, they are speaking through microphones and speakers for everybody to know what they want and even the Jesus that we are talking about said: ‘If you want to have any collaboration with your father, go to your room and speak with your father one-on-one. It’s not that you take a microphone and ‘gbegbegbegbegbe’. Look at where religion is going now. Now people are using religion to make themselves rich and all that; they’ve forgotten that money is not the key”, he said.

Dope Nation Diss “Kwesi Arthur” in New Song; Chairman

0

It appears the Zanku and Confam hit-makers have a bone to pick with Best International Act (2018 BET Awards), Kwesi Arthur.  Their latest song titled Chairman appears to target the rapper who doubles as an amazing singer. Despite what may seem a deliberate attempt not to mention his name, most of the lyrics point in only one direction. What could have informed the production of this song is not yet known.

What could make the party boys deploy some serious rap verses to somewhat annihilate another lyrically is unknown. Dope Nation recently signed a deal with Lynx Entertainment, after which they released Zanku and Confam; with both songs currently doing very well.

Would Kwesi Arthur respond to make the Christmas holidays “beefy”?
