Tilakou aka Don Max to sell 20 copies of “Bars of a Legend” at $5 each.

0

Tilakou aka Don Max appears to have raised the bar in Ghana music; Upper East Region to be precise.  His latest move would test the true relevance of a mass/cult following. The Upper East Region and Bolgatanga has a lot of musicians each claiming to have a massive fan base. However, the true relevance of a fan base must reflect in the economic success of the artistes.

With the exception of Rockcity, I am yet to know of a paid event that had a massive attendance like Sagl3 Concert. This could also be an indication that they make good sales as well. But, can that be said about all the musicians claiming massive following?

Rockcity’s SAGL3 CONCERT II 2018

The Upper East Region has been saddled with a low patronage of music and music-related initiatives. The last few days have seen conversations on how various stakeholders in the industry deserve their due. However, the infant industry with very little-to-no investors appears not ready to reward all. In the spirit of finding appropriate means to sell and distribute, artistes like Tilakou don’t seem to be sleeping.

The yet to be released song titled Bars of a Legend, is expected to expose some innovativeness on the part the Tilakou aka Don Max. Brazenly defying all odds and myths, Tilakou has priced the unreleased sing at $5 and 25GHS per copy.

Deducting from bits and pieces of posts he made on his personal Facebook wall, the artiste is seeking to put out just a few copies of the song. Suffice to say, he seeks to run along the strategies of a limited edition. Suffice to say, Tilakou’s quest is laudable, however, would he starve his core fans to please a few?

If this antic is to ensure Tilakou makes some returns from the production, why limit the number of copies to be sold?

Tilakou recently emerged winner of the Hip Hop Song of the year category wuth his song “Black and White”. As a revered artiste he’s expected to be a pace-setter in innovation. Let’s see how the whole $5 a song goes…

Ruty Roc is hated by Atigsi-Badek…?

1

It’s gradually becoming an in-thing to assume hatred when criticised. Such has become of a critique I openly made after listening to Sunshine by Ruty Roc. Some fans of this young rapper appear to be blinded by loyalty; to the extent that they don’t scrutinize substance. Their only interest is in hailing whatever their favorite rapper puts out. It is worth noting that Ruty Roc has the demeanor and skill to stay a force in rapdom. However, he has his flaws stemming from misunderstanding the Rap genre and Hip Hop as a whole.

Sunshine By Ruty Roc

Whilst rap from certain quarters contains a lot of violence and foul language, it doesn’t truly represent the true nature of rap. Rap is the embodiment of puns, rhymes, and punchlines emanating from a person’s socio-cultural experiences. It is alright for a rapper from New York to use the language he was raised with.  However, a rapper from Bolgatanga should make the body of his lyrics true to his nature.

Gangsterism and curse words are not a thing embedded in the culture and experiences of the region. It is therefore inappropriate for a rapper to dwell on any of the two. In any case, flooding a song with such words means you probably don’t want any radio-airplay. Yes, new media makes it easier for such to pass. But by the day, censoring is being improved on all media.

Ruty Roc

Ruty Roc was expected by fans to win at least the Best New Act of the year at UEMA 2020. Unfortunately, he lost to Chrisberry who is perceived to be undeserving of the award. Whilst we all hold opinions, suffice to say, once an artiste makes it as a nominee, they can emerge winners. Especially, when the scheme dwells on votes. It is therefore inappropriate for an artiste or his fans to discredit someone’s win. Simply because they assumed their favorite deserved it. The popular question “did you vote?” should be a guide.

I can’t hate someone I don’t really have any business with. Ruty Roc has a fine future. However, I doubt if his love for the lyrics of Sunshine would be what catapults his rise.

It is preposterous to assume someone hates another without basis.

In a Facebook post, a member of the Rockcity crew, Rockcity Kurt, has alluded to finally receiving their awards from the organizers of this years Upper East Music Awards.

Sometimes referred to as the Typical Bongo Boys, they emerged winners in four categories.

The revered music group has dominated the region for some years now. It is therefore not surprising they were crowned Artiste of the Year, with Video of the Year, & Group of the Year. To truly prove their dominance, they also emerged as the group with the largest Fan Army in the region.

The night was an exciting one with more performances by Kapato Reigns, King Aboloway and some more artistes.

Kapato Reigns

As if Mani Mandela was feeding off the thrill of the crowd, he returned for a third time. This time around he performed alongside artistes he had features with. Notably Adiipi and Natty Bwoy.

An initiative of one of the Upper East’s finest Deejays, DJ Gizy, Buluk2theworld has become the event that outdoors super-talented musicians to the entire Builsa Tradional Area year after year. It also helps crown the Feok Festival Celebrations by the people of the traditional area.

Congratulations to the organizers. Higher heights await the next edition.

It’s the Christmas holidays and events across the country are battling the challenges of Covid-19 restrictions, however, for the love of music, many are braving the odds albeit observing the protocols to the max.

The Akpafu and Lolobi Traditional Area has petitioned the electoral commission of Ghana. They seek to know amongst many other things why they weren’t allowed to vote in the recent parliamentary elections.

This is following an earlier communication by the Electoral Commission assured the traditional area of plans to ensure they are not disenfranchised.

On November 27, 2020 and December 16, 2020, the two traditional areas wrote a letter to the Election Commission requesting clarification of their voting rights before the December 2020 elections and after the elections, respectively.

In another request from the traditional regions, they pointed out that the combined efforts of the Electoral Commission to organize the 2020 general elections had resulted in the denial of the right to vote of the inhabitants of the region.

Chiefs, elders, and residents of the traditional areas of Akpafu and Lolobi have expressed concern and disappointment with the Election Commission for preventing them from voting for their parliamentary candidate in Hohoe constituency, a constituency that ‘they called it “mother constituency”. They said it was the first time since 1992 that the Commission had denied them their rights in an election to select a candidate to represent them.

The traditional areas further request answers to some questions on the conduct of the 2020 elections and constitutional interpretations of how the elections were conducted, compilation and reporting of election results in the traditional areas of Akpafu and Lolobi.

Meanwhile Supporters of the National democratic congress across Ghana remain resolute in a quest to scrutinise election 2020 results.

#JogobuKonnectIII – A double dose of ecstasy

It’s #JogoBuKonnectIII and Navrongo would pause for a whole night. CarlBlingx, arguably Navrongo’s finest and consistent rap artiste is set to thrill fans once again. What started as a gathering of rap enthusiasts, has gradually become the annual treat for fans of the eclectic rapper. His forte remains the ability to employ immense wordplay in addressing issues, yet keeping the music authentic & danceable.

Despite a vey busy performance schedule for season, Carlblingx hasn’t waned in honouring his obligation to fans.

This year’s edition of #JogobuKonnectIII takes place at the popular Mayaga Hotel, Navrongo. On the 25th of December 2020. It promises to be one of the best editions yet. CarlBlingx & his Jogobu Empire team has an array of wonderful musicians supporting his night.

On the regular, Carlblingx would bring the best of stagecraft to compliment beautiful, rhythmic, foot-throbbing music; however, this time around, he’s placing Navrongo within the context of a social discourse. If you’ve followed his music for a while, you’ll realize he doesn’t just string words together. He wittingly explores social issues through rap. This implies the #NavrongoWeDey EP would be an interesting chronicle of social issues emanating from the Navrongo area.

Carlblingx bagged Record of the Year at the 2020 Upper East Music Awards. It is therefore prudent to say #JogobuKonnectIII definitely a celebration of triumph.
